Either side of Christmas I did two runs in aid of children, both runs being organised by the Nottingham Triumph Owners M.C.C. and starting from Bottesford, a village near Grantham.
The Christmas Toy Run I did on my own, in December, when it was rather cold! I did, however meet up with a few Sherwood members who had travelled over from the Mansfield area. The village main street was full of bikes of all shapes and sizes as we set of for Grantham. We rode through the town before arriving at the South Kesteven Sports Stadium. Here we went inside and put our toys on large tables, before having a welcome cup of coffee and a mince pie. The toys were left to be sorted by members of the Salvation Army. It was a very good atmosphere and everybody was thanked by the Mayor of Grantham.
On the 9th March I returned to Bottesford for the Easter Egg Run. This time I was accompanied by Yvonne, on our Roadking, Andy on his new Nightster, and good friends Karen and Neil on their Heritage Softail Classic. Although the weather forecast was not good, the day turned out good, with some sun and no rain. About 500 bikes made the journey into Grantham, this time using many of the country lanes instead of the main A52. I think we ground Grantham to a halt as we made our way through the town to the same stadium as before. This time our eggs were counted into black bags in order that the correct number could be transported to sixteen different homes. Coffee and hot cross buns were made available to all who donated eggs. I only saw a few Sherwood members, and will be seeking to encourage many more to participate in future. Anyone interested should note that the date of the Christmas Toy Run this year will be on the 30th November. See you there!!
