Cleethorpes Custom Bike & Scooter Show – Sunday 22nd May 2011

Yet another trip to Cleethorpes! We seem to be ending up there almost once a month at the moment. However, this was in order to visit the bike show which was being overseen this year by the North East Lincolnshire MAG. I am solidly behind this sort of event and believe that we, as bikers, should put ourselves out and support them as much as we can. After all, once they are gone through lack of interest, it will have been our fault!

This event is very similar to the one at Mablethorpe as it has only been running a few years and is therefore still small (and struggling in the present economic climate). The Cleethorpes council is backing the event and hopes that in years to come it will grow. Well done to them!

Parking was along the front around the swimming pool area. There was live music and a few stalls to keep us interested. I was particularly interested in the replica Honda 500cc RC181, two of which were raced by Mike Hailwood and Jim Redman in the motorcycle Grand Prix series of 1966/67. Five victories were gained in 1966, with Mike finishing second to Giacomo Agostini (MV Agusta) in the individual world championship and Honda winning the constructors championship.

There was also a custom bike show, held in the hall of the swimming complex. There were some old and new examples, which must have given the judges a few headaches!

Like I said before, whilst these shows are small and struggling to get established, it is up to ALL bikers in Lincolnshire to help them by attending, if only for a short time!! Make sure you do your bit next year for both Cleethorpes and Mablethorpe!
